The Wardrobe Theatre is seeking a new Chair to join the board in April 2026. By becoming our Chair, you will have the chance to work closely with the charity to ensure the long-term future of The Wardrobe Theatre.
The Chair is responsible for providing strategic direction for The Wardrobe Theatre. This involves working closely with the Board and our Executive to develop and implement a clear strategic plan that aligns with our mission and objectives. The Chair will also support, advise, challenge, appraise and help develop our CEO and Executive.
We are keen to hear from anyone who loves theatre and the arts, believes in the work that we do, shares our values and who wants to play a part in our next chapter. You don’t have to be an expert in theatre or be a performer. Given the nature of the role, we do need someone who has proven experience at Board level, but this could be your first Chair role.
Starting – April 2026
Deadline – please register your interest by Friday 9th January 2026

A message from the outgoing Chair, Naomi Miller:
“The Wardrobe Theatre is a place like no other. Whatever the day, without a glance at the What’s On brochure, I can guarantee that when you walk up to our box office and book a ticket for that night, you’ll be greeted with fun, laughter, community and fresh artistic expression.

It has been one of the many joys of my life to have been so deeply involved with The Wardrobe Theatre, joining eight years ago when the organisation was on the cusp of becoming a registered charity, through the challenges of the pandemic and the changing lockdown rules. It has been an honour to accompany the organisation as it moves from an organic, spirited adolescence into its beginnings as a grounded, purposeful adulthood. This is the chapter where you currently find us: a moment of consolidation where our focus is securing our foundation, strengthening internal systems, and reaffirming our values.
This was my first Chair role – a feat which wouldn’t have seemed possible without the opportunity to initially co-Chair with the wonderful Pippa Warin, who offered me her support and mentorship for two terms before I eventually went solo. I would encourage anyone contemplating their first Chair role – or who feels pulled towards this, but is worried about not being ready or not believing that they can do it – to talk to me, the team, our trustees – and to consider co-Chairing. In recent years, The Wardrobe Theatre board has created a network of working groups and committees, all with trustees taking on respective Chair roles, which has shared the responsibility across the team.
Our artistic programming is renowned and our stage hosts everyone from international talent, household names, local voices and people taking their first steps in theatre. We have a passionate and loyal team who know and love the space – and who are all creative practitioners in their own rights. We are in a stable financial position and are about to become more so, strengthened by a commitment to forging partnerships with donors, funders and businesses, and seeking new commercial opportunities. Our current Board features a group of talented, loyal and highly engaged Trustees, and it is a real privilege to be their Chair.
I hope that reading this pack leaves you feeling excited and curious, and inspired to join us on our next chapter of growth and development. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you’d like to know more!”
