Interview with producer, Alice Massey

By supporting The Wardrobe Theatre you are helping us support artists and theatre-makers in Bristol, including the unsung heroes of theatre like freelance producer Alice Massey…

Stepping into the shoes of producer for The Good, The Bad & The Coyote Ugly at The Wardrobe Theatre has been a fantastic experience. I first started working with The Wardrobe Theatre on Sherlock In Homes, the online smash hit murder mystery, which I produced for Sharp Teeth in 2020. As a producer I specialise in work for children and families and feel lucky I’ve been able to bring our work to The Wardrobe Theatre including The Tap Dancing Mermaid from Tessa Bide Productions and Dinosaurs & All That Rubbish from Roustabout Theatre. The Wardrobe Theatre has always been a space where we get great audiences and we as a company are well looked after.

As a regular audience member since I moved to Bristol seven years ago I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of one of the infamous Christmas productions. I always make sure to catch these inspiring shows like Drac & Jill, Oedipuss In Boots and MDH: Puppets Do A Movie plus all the other brilliant shows throughout the year.

My role as producer is to bring the team together, solve any tricky issues that pop up and generally look after everyone! There’s the less fun stuff too of course, like writing contracts, managing the budget and firming up schedules but it’s all worth it to watch the show on opening night. Working on this production has been an absolute blast – the team’s passion, dedication and humour are infectious and you’re in for a real treat if you’ve got tickets to see the show this Christmas.
