Starring the makers of Jeezus! comes a dark comedy spanning sixty years of queer history, set in gay saunas where people gather to hook up, confess, worship, survive – and sometimes even find love. Showing as part of PAPAYA Fest 2026.
From London to Cátries, Chechnya to Dublin, Spunk is a dark comedy set in gay saunas across sixty years of queer history. In the steam, bodies come to hook up, confess, worship, survive and, sometimes, find love.
By turns funny, moving and provocative, Venezuelan playwright Héctor Manchego’s acclaimed play explores how queer lives have been shaped by desire, politics, faith, fear and community across generations and continents.
Closing Papaya Fest with its Bristol debut, SPUNK stars the makers of Jeezus! (Papaya Fest 2024). Expect heat, humour and humanity as stories collide in the steam room, bringing the festival to a memorable and suitably sweaty close.
Stay afterwards for the festival’s Closing Night Fiesta at The Old Market Assembly!
