Join PAPAYA Fest for the Bristol premiere of Chile Estyle followed by a post-screening Q&A with Chilean-Canadian film-maker, Pablo Aravena, and local Bristol graffiti artist, PEKOE

Following its sell-out London premiere at La Linea Festival and against the backdrop of Bristol’s ever-growing street art scene, don’t miss this visually arresting, informative and entertaining documentary.

Young people took to the streets with political muralism all over Chile in the late 60s at the same time as young people in New York were starting Modern graffiti and May ’68 happened in Paris. Chile Estyle is a documentary which explores the past and present of Chile’s unique street art tradition which remixes political muralism and graffiti and has been part of Chilean cultural and political life since the 60s. This form of expression gives voice to previously unheard voices like women, native people and workers resulting in a visually arresting, informative and entertaining film.

Stay with us after the show to hear from local street artist, Pekoe, in conversation with Pablo Aravena as they discuss the graffiti movement across the Atlantic in real time.

Pekoe is a Bristol-based illustrator and muralist with a passion for painting large scale walls whilst experimenting with colour and form. Influenced by her Dominican heritage, social justice, classical paintings and graffiti, Pekoe’s work delves deep into what it means to be a woman. Black culture and iconography are themes that can be seen in her portraiture.
