PAPAYA Fest’s Film Night shines a light on stories that deserve to be seen – and this year’s film is one of the most powerful yet. The military dictatorship in Argentina came to an end in 1983. For trans people it continued for more than a decade. Hunted by police, denied basic rights, forced to survive in secret. Some were exiled, others died or were killed. All of them fought.
Álbum De Familia (Family Album) is a portrait of Claudia Pía Baudracco, the activist who helped win Argentina’s landmark Gender Identity Law, told through archive, photographs, and the voices of the women who were there. A family album for a history that was never meant to be told.

La dictadura militar en Argentina terminó en 1983, pero para las personas trans siguió por más de una década. Perseguidas por la Policía, obligadas a vivir encerradas y sin acceso a ningún derecho, sobrevivieron juntas en pensiones y encuentros clandestinos. Algunas se exiliaron, otras murieron o fueron asesinadas. Todas lucharon. Hoy las sobrevivientes trabajan para reconstruir esa memoria: un archivo de miles de fotos es la base de este Álbum de Familia, que a través del retrato de la legendaria activista Claudia Pía Baudracco, viaja a la intimidad de una historia negada.
