By supporting The Wardrobe Theatre you are helping us support artists and theatre-makers in Bristol, people like clown and facilitator, Hester Welch…
Hello hello. Come with me on a journey back in time… A time when it was safe to keep a distance…
Moving cities to Bristol in a pandemic was pretty odd. I sought a community of like-minded idiots, that’s what we call each other in the world of Clown. After having had such a great experience of bringing Fools together with The Lost Cabaret Paris, it felt like a no brainer to get it going in Bristol with its infamous alternative scene. The Lost Cabaret is a global collective of alternative comedy makers, curious to expand the reaches of absurd and physical comedy since 2012. We bring together exciting local acts and those from further afield for a delightful night of silliness! By taking the plunge and starting up the night in Bristol, it didn’t take long to meet other artists all hungry for a regular experimental comedy night. A small team of beautiful Lost souls was formed. Including small people and taller, but most importantly; silly.
However, to be able to grow our audiences, to develop our practice as a team, we needed a home. Enter The Wardrobe Theatre! The team has supported us in growing into an established night in the city, by welcoming us into their bosom. It has enabled us to plan a schedule of events, to grow a wider range of audiences (and regular attenders), as well as reach brilliant performers from near and far. Most importantly, to not lose our minds every time an event comes round, knowing we have a home to come back to. This means we can put more of our energies into creating an epic night of community and connection, rather than spending all our time on marketing and logistics!
We’ve been running it as a collective of silly people for two years now. The Wardrobe Theatre has shaped who we are today. We feel so fortunate to be part of such an important venue in the city.
Our next night at The Wardrobe Theatre will be on Sat 28th Sep – do join us! If you can’t wait until that long, we are presenting The Lost Cabaret as part of London Clown Festival on 19th July. Do share with your London pals!
