Learn how to integrate clown skills into your improv practice to become a more confident, present, and committed long-form performer, under the guidance of clownprov’s favorite duo Carlos Sandin and Fred Newnes. This 3 day workshop is for long-form improvisers, actors and all performers keen to spice up their practice. Clown experience not necessary.
Rip up the rule book and take your improv skills to the next level. With the fourth wall torn down and an audience to entertain, how can you make your vulnerability your biggest asset? Discover what makes you unique as a performer and how you can harness this to entertain even the most intimidating of audiences.
Day 1: Le Jeu, Complicite and Sensitivity – Employing trust and joy; how do we build it and learn to follow our pleasure? Reconnect with your audience and be more in tune with what they do and don’t like.
Day 2: Physicality, the Flop and Group Games – Learn to love making bold physical offers and how to fail and bounce back. Explore how to merge your clown skills with your pre-existing improv instincts.
Day 3: Scene Work – Learn to organically start scenes and build on your success, all whilst staying connected to your stage partner(s) and the audience. Applying all previous lessons, gloriously fail and create magic on stage through continuous practice.
Over the 3 days, you will develop the key skills of a ‘Clownprov’ performer and complete the course with enhanced abilities to be playful with your audience, resilient to failure, and bold with your creative risks. Jump on stage with anyone, anywhere, and perform with verve.
This course suits long-form improvisers, actors and any performer looking to experiment and develop their practice. No experience in clown required, but to get the most out of the course experience with improv is advised.
Your Facilitator:
Carlos Sandin and Fred Newnes, better known as The Supermalts, perform regularly in London’s alternative comedy and improv circuits as the UK’s only clownprov act. Their original work includes two solo clown shows Pull My Goldfinger and Tony Cony: Lost in New York, and their award-winning clownprov double act show, Highest Grossing Film of All Time. They teach clown and improv throughout London and run the UK’s only clownprov course at LeapDay improv school.
