Join The Thelmas (Santi & Naz) for a free workshop on how to make creative work as a small independent touring theatre company
This workshop will explore what it means to be a small, independent touring theatre company. There is no big trade secret; it mostly involves a lot of hard work, determination and a vision of the kind of work you want to make.
The Thelmas will lead you through a series of creative exercises designed to highlight your skills, strengths and interests. Through discussion, answering pertinent questions and exploring personal experiences you will highlight what you as an individual need to progress your career. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the roles of a writer, director and producer, and how they might develop the skills needed to ‘do it all’.
All you need to bring with you is a ‘can do attitude’ & something to write on.
The Thelmas
The Thelmas is an award-winning female-led theatre company established to develop and promote artistic work that gives space to marginalised voices. We do this by telling playfully disruptive stories that appeal to diverse audiences and bridge the gap between the political and the mainstream. Our work is thought-provoking, complex and boisterous. Through our public productions, community-building and women-centred workshops, we explore the social, political and cultural stories that matter, in a fresh and surprising way.
The company is led by Director, Madelaine Moore and Writer, Guleraana Mir. Since their formation in 2014, The Thelmas have built themselves a place on the theatre scene as a dynamic, fast-growing company. Fresh from their sell-out Fringe First winning run of Son of a Bitch by Anna Morris, they are embarking on a national tour and London run of Santi & Naz by Guleraana Mir & afshan d’souza-Lodhi which previously won the Origins Award at VAULT Festival 2020 and the Charlie Harill in 2023. Previous productions include the 2018 Edinburgh fringe “smash hit”, Ladykiller by Madeline Gould which won the VAULT Pleasance award in 2019, Coconut by Guleraana Mir, which received a London run at Ovalhouse (now BrixtonHouse) in 2018 followed by a national tour, and NOTCH by Danaja Wass which won critical and public acclaim for its complex and haunting production at VAULT Festival 2020.
